When I was a child growing up in Texas, I thought the sound of heat was the sound of cicadas in the trees. Their noise swelled up from one tree and rolled into another like a wave. It made the hot air pulse like a sluggish heartbeat and made summers feel slow and stretched. When the oppressive heat of the afternoon bore down on us, relief was often a tall iced glass of lemonade and an electric fan.
Now living in Utah the summers might not be quite as hot but I still find myself reaching for a condensation-covered glass of that sweet and tangy liquid. If you are looking for a twist on the classic I have some recipes linked down below. And if you are looking for a cup to enjoy it in I just added some to the shop that are featured in these photos.
Besides drinking all the lemonade I can get my hands on this summer, I will be busily making new work for two festivals. Craft Lake City’s DIY festival is August 12th through the 14th, a link to their website here. I will also be at the Urban Arts Festival for the first time this September 17th and 18th, which you can learn about here. If you can make it out to one of these events I would love to talk to you. Of course I’ll be giving some teasers both here and elsewhere online of items I will have for sale at these events. Also I’m switching instagram accounts. I’ll be featuring work and in progress photos on my new account @x10studios. So if its ceramics you want to see and not funny stickers or every flower I come across, you might want to switch to following me under the new handle.
