I’m trying to keep my creative mindset amidst all this wintry weather. I’ve been getting outside and taking photos and looking around the Internet. I have also been taking things out of my inspiration box and I thought I would show you guys some of what I’ve been looking at.
Those that know me probably know that I’m a bit of collector. It can be both a bane and a boon as you might imagine. I try to keep what I collect small and every once in while curate the collection to decide what to let go. My main collection right now is organic material, more specifically pods and seeds.
The variety of shapes and textures is stimulating. I’m not a math fanatic but I know that within every seedpod is an underlying math equation. It’s so subtle and so natural as to be hardly noticeable to conscious mind. Yet unconsciously it makes sense to us and to our eyes.
I suppose in an indirect way that is what I’m trying to gain by looking at these pods and organic materials over and over again. I want to make sense of the pattern that is drawing me in and find a way to implement it into my own work.
What are some of you favorite seeds, pods or other organic items? Where does inspiration come from for you? What do you feel yourself drawn to? How do you like to get out of a creative slump?
