Hello everyone! Welcome to my first blog post. I am Kirsten Taylor; an artist, obsessive maker and continuous learner. The goal of this blog will be to share all of these passions with you. It will give you insight into what I am working on in the studio and what it is like to be a working artist (hopefully without the starving part). I will also be sharing with you, people and things I find inspiring.
In this introductory post I would like to take the chance to explain my logo for all those who haven’t met me in person. I was named after my great-step-grandmother Kirsten, a woman of Danish descent. They pronounced her name “Kiss-ten.” I’m at little fuzzy on the details of exactly when and how but somewhere along the way the “r” sound in her first name was dropped. The spelling remained the same. My parents thought this name was lovely and gave it to me.
As you can imagine this has been the cause of many questions, jokes, lost mail, and misspellings throughout my life. I came up with a way to explain the pronunciation when meeting new people. I tell people it sounds like kiss and the number ten. It eventually evolved into a kind of shorthand when writing my name, X10 or in the case of my Instagram name, kiss10taylor. I even once decorated a Valentine’s Day bag with kissing lips and the number 10.
Since I have begun transforming my artistic passions into a business I knew I needed some kind of logo. I had been playing around with many ideas when someone told me how much they liked it when I used the X10 shorthand for my name. A light bulb went off. This integral personal detail such as this was just what I had been looking for.
So now you understand where the logo comes from and why I’ll be signing off every blog post…
